Overview

The Joseph W. Jones Ecological Research Center at Ichauway "seeks to understand, to demonstrate and to promote excellence in natural resource management and conservation on the landscape of the southeastern Coastal Plain." Longleaf pine forest is the dominant and historic land cover in the region, but over 1,100 vascular plant species and 370 vertebrate species have been found there.

Ecological communities at the Jones Center include pine forests, mixed forests, riparian hardwood forests, depressional wetlands, shrub-scrub uplands, agricultural fields, and streams.
